290 Mulberry project: shOp architects
The post in http://designreform.net/2008/05/24/shop-architects-290-mulberry-project/
aptly summarizes the work. Some of the programs used were ( as it appeared in the article)
"Through out SD and DD various modeling packages were used 3ds Max, Rhino, Generative Components, Digital Project, and Revit (a some good old fashion Autocad). 3ds Max was used early to experiment with the affect of the brick, then again much later in the process to create photo real marketing imagery; Rhino has been used though out the process for explicit modeling as well as scripting the placement of the bricks in the model (this would have been tough without RhinoScript); Generative Components and Digital Project where used to explore the patterning of the brick; Revit was used to model the building (including the panels) and critical part of the MEP systems."
Whats interesting is that the facade panels were prefabricated and fixed to the facade onsite. Though not an ideal project for prefabrication, pretty cool example of combining parametric modeling to generate interesting prefab components which are not drab/dull as the historic forms.....

The 'viRus'
well we all have friends in life, some r cute ones (girls), some r jus friends we smile when we cross them in corridors, etc, some are the ones we like very much (can b girls or guys) but they dont reciprocate, while some r ones who r mean and selfish (so its reversal of the above padigm).....but then there r some who r real close ones to make mess out of ur life for good....I call them viRus....n I have one such friend....haha
well, its like u go around life daily till this viRus attacks u.....then suddenly u start to see new pathological conditions, appreciate some hate some.....but essentially they r conditions u wudnt usually have seen if u wouldnt hav got infected.....u evolve during that span of time, u learn how to fight, u learn how to build hope, see light.....n then one day u realize...u r now used to it...the viRus becomes a part of ur life..
on a funny note...this viRus can screw ur life, but on a senti note...it can show u how to see things differently, how to rise from every sickness, how to appreciate health and how to become one like him... :)
so thats all for now....another unrelated, un-intelligent post, neverthless its dedicated to the viRus i got infected with a few years back!!

Digital Ima'gining'
http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/pattie_maes_demos_the_sixth_sense.html
This was an interesting post I found out jus a couple of dayz back... the way people interact with information has alwayz being the forefront of research, with the rising of database, pattern recognition and 3G networks....The video features work at MIT Media Lab by Fluid Research group . . Pattie Maes and Pranav Mistry.
some other interesting concepts -
SIGGRAPH (Special Interest Group on GRAPHICS Interactive Tehnology)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1p783HOcCA&feature=related
microsofts surface (codename Milan)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKh1Rv0PlOQ
This clip shows a product similar to surface by Jeff Han of Perceptive Pixel at Ted conference in 2006. Pretty similar technology as it appears, though it has some differences . .
Some interesting fact about multitouch are - the research began since 1982 at University of Toronto and Bell Labs. The product idea for Microsoft surface was first conceived in 2001 by Steven Bathiche and Andy Wilson at Microft, the product idea presented to Gates in 2003, surface unveiled to industry in May 2007 by Steve Ballmer at 'Wall Street Journals' 'D" All things digital conference and the first surface deployed to AT&T in April 17th 2008...
Deskrama
This is a research technology by Digitarama.

Forer Effect
I recently was taking to friend of mine who stayed in the same colony back home as mine.....and we did had a good interaction before comming to US...but eventually as dumb ass as i can be, I hardly called him...he surprisingly called up during the spring break one day and we spoke as if we had just left for US yesterday...
Now hes a very organized and orderly person (unlike me), so I thought that he must be busy doin exams and other x-curricular academic activities (which he actually is doin)...but then he lamented about the time he wastes some times a week watching all those above serials....when i told him, I too-like other normal grad beings watch these....n he was relieved to hear that, as if a supereme court judge pardoned him off a crime after being accused by all the base courts had accused him of murder!!
Comming back to my purpose of this post, the recent one I am watchin is the Big Bang Theory . . and as hilarious it can be with prodigies like Sheldon and Leonard quibbling over 'banal and trite situations' using erudite vocabluary, they do shell out many thoroughly researched (thanks to the Dr David Saltzberg a UCLA physics and astronomy professor who actually checks the scripts for veracity and producers Lorre/Prady) topics and concepts.
One such concept struct me intriguing was the 'Forer effect'. Now it almost made me stop the episode and google 'forer effect'. I was surprised to see my fundamentals shocked.........
Now the Forer effect goes like this:
The Forer effect (also called personal validation fallacy or the Barnum effect after P. T. Barnum's observation that 'we've got something for everyone') is the observation that individuals will give high accuracy ratings to descriptions of their personality that supposedly are tailored specifically for them, but are in fact vague and general enough to apply to a wide range of people. The Forer effect can provide a partial explanation for the widespread acceptance of some pseudosciences such as astrology and fortune telling, as well as many types of personality tests.
I am a strong follower of astrology and the signs descriptions...(almost addicted to check them every day and hate fr doin that...) but then its a good way to remember birthdays too...which many people do aggree. . .
But the Forer effect has been statistically proved correct (statistically significant) even when the experiment has been repeated 100's of times but the result has alwayz been the same.....putting a big realization on me about the complacency we seek through astrology and daily forcasts....
GOSH!!!!!
Let Go
by Fion Lim

Letting go is one of the hardest lessons in life,
Yet over changing seasons and passing time,
You will have to learn to let go of certain
People, relationships, situations and things,
That fall way beyond your control.
Tenacity and the attitude of not giving up,
Work wonders on many occasions but not all,
As some things just are not meant to be,
No matter how hard you fight and cling to them,
And forcing your will upon things just repel them further.
There will always be people,
Who will turn out in ways you never expected,
And it dawns on you that you have to let them go,
So that they can fulfill their destinies,
While you go on to fulfill your own life path.
As life likes to dish out surprises and challenges,
Sometimes it is only through letting go,
When your heart cries in anguish,
That in the agonizing process that you realize,
What is truly worth holding onto.
Letting go does not signify weakness,
As it might take more courage to let go than holding on,
Like the big, inflexible tree that snaps in the storm,
While tiny blades of grasses yield and live on,
Revealing the strength of letting go.
I spend many a good times at this place and its almost near 2 years now... found many friends..lost heart to a few...became friends with many...
n now standing at the crossroads of life near graduation, i think of how much did i actually gain in terms of opportunities, love, progress, education, vision and dreams... i read an interesting post by Bikram Snehi about conversation with Bombay...and in a way, it provoked me to start using this space which i first rendered fruitless like many other startups (not company's) . . to actually use this and start geting to kno myself better thru this . . .
so heres a nice poem by Fion Lim . . i dont kno why i chose this poem, but i realize one thing after many a years spent . . that sometimes we fall in love with a place, a person, a thing, a dream or anything in general, thinking that this is gonna get us ahead when only at the end we see back and figure out that the time has moved ahead but not 'we' . . this is when u say 'let go'.
